Tip Trillions breaks down the types of producers and the role they play.

In today’s music industry it is agreed upon that a person that composes the beat of a song is generally referred to as a producer. 

However, there are three main types of producers associated with the production of a record: 

  1. Music Producer— the person that composes the music of a song.
  2. Record Producer— the person that assists the artist with the arrangement of the song structure, sound and overall quality. 
  3. Executive Producer— the person responsible for coordinating a songs financing, studio scheduling and perhaps A&R direction.

It is possible and somewhat common for one individual or even the artists themselves to fulfill all three roles and completely self-produce a song.
